Ruthless Vito Genovese

Vito "Don Vito" Genovese (November 27, 1897–February 14, 1969) was an Italian-American mobster and crime boss who rose to power during the Prohibition era. He was born in Italy and immigrated to the United States as a child, settling in New York City. 

Genovese became involved in organized crime in his teenage years. He quickly rose through the ranks of the Italian-American Mafia. Becoming one of the most powerful and feared crime bosses in the United States. Known for his ruthlessness and his ability to maintain control over his criminal empire through violence and intimidation. 

His involvement in bootlegging, extortion, gambling, and murder brought his family large amounts of income. He was also involved in the drug trade and played a significant role in the development of the international heroin trade. 

In the 1950s, the law implicated Genovese in several high-profile criminal cases, including the murder of fellow mob boss Albert Anastasia. He was eventually convicted of conspiracy to violate federal narcotics laws in 1959 and sentenced to 15 years in prison, where he remained until his death in 1969.

Mario Puzo used Genovese style in building the character of Vito Corleone.
