Capone, Lansky, Gotti and Castellano Role Models-The gangster’s potential was limitless, however, they needed someone to help them reach their capabilities. We all need someone to admire, someone to teach us and share their secrets of success. The gangster was no different. Having a role model is an important person to have in your life. The following are excerpts from the book, Secrets of the Mob-The Men and Their Methods.

Meyer Lansky- Meyer Lansky’s role model was another Jewish gangster, Arnold Rothstein. Rothstein, also known as The Father of Organized Crime, The Brain and, The Big Bankroll was a legend among gangsters because he learned how to earn a dollar, millions of dollars. He was a gambler, a real estate investor and a huge lender. Arnold met Meyer at a Bar-Mitsvah and as their relationship grew, he passed his knowledge on to him. Lansky made a big impression on Rothstein and Arnold invited him for dinner at the Park Central Hotel, where they talked for over six hours.

Strengths-We all have strengths and weaknesses. Research showed the mobster had more strengths. Working as a racketeer or entrepreneur takes courage, risk-taking, toughness, boldness, focus, and persistence. Running an organization in a normal life is risky. As a gangster, it was a fierce endeavor indeed.Al Capone- Al Capone had a big heart, and one of his strengths

was philanthropy. He gave away hundreds of thousands of dollars to friends, associates and family. If someone needed guidance, he was there to assist them. Al Capone was a leader, and he made plenty of money for everyone involved with him. He loved his family and made protecting them a priority. He loved the notoriety the media offered him daily. Big Al loved being the center of attention.

Business- How did the bosses manage their enterprises? In this section, we will explore how they and their associates ran their businesses. Owning an enterprise takes risk, guts, cash, persistence, and dedication. It doesn’t matter what size of a business a person starts, whether it’s a car wash or opening a store with thousands of products. You still need cash and people. Employees in the mob are soldiers, capos, captains, consiglieres, and underbosses. Businesses need rules and everyone must adhere to them.John Gotti- At the height of his career, John Gotti’s estimated net worth was around $30 Million and related information said that he brought in $10-$12 million a year. Gotti’s business involvements included money lending, construction, and gambling. He was an outgoing, handsome man who loved people and was kind to his neighbors, friends, and associates. John had a dominant personality and people loved being with him. Who wouldn’t enjoy being among the boss’s entourage?

Education-No matter what type of education you receive, education it is always the key to success. In the movie A Bronx Tale, Sonny lectures C on the importance of a well-rounded education, “You get two educations, one in school and one in the street.” Historically, gangsters dropped out of school early, too bad they didn’t know Sonny. Possibly their lives would have been easier.

Paul Castellano- Research showed Carlo would have been the one to teach Paul the business. He learned everything he could and added his own style, which comprised running the mob as a business executive, not like a gangster. After the death of Carlo, Castellano ruled the largest mafia family in the world. If you enjoyed this blog, then you will love the book I mentioned above. Secrets of the Mob.
